Short Synopsis ...
In the depths of Fear City (1975 New York), Petal struggles to care for the returning young Veterans of Vietnam. Shunned by their fellow New Yorkers, castigated and blamed by the media for a war gone wrong, it seems they have no future. Until… Petal discovers Heylo (Heyward Lowry), rock musician and Vet playing to ‘her boys’ outside her soup kitchen. Is Heylo the answer to her prayers? Is she the answer to his? As love blossoms, Heylo takes up the mantle of the Vets’ cause, using his music to challenge perceptions about Vietnam and the Vets. Wheelchair bound Tex believes Heylo to be their voice, the others aren’t so sure. Even less so when music manager Dauncey moves in to claim Heylo as his own 'Voice of a Generation'. Swept away by success, Heylo betrays Tex and the boys. Petal is heartbroken and can’t believe in Heylo any more. As the true reality of how he’s been manipulated and how he’s lost the love of his life hits Heylo, he faces death at the hands of his fellow vets. As the day of the first big supporting rally dawns, Heylo tries again to win back what he’s lost, only to face an even bigger foe …
